Towering above Osaka’s Abeno and Tennoji Wards, the 300-metre tall Abeno Harukas building is Japan’s tallest skyscraper.
Constructed in 2014, the ‘vertical city’ is home to department store chain Kintetsu’s flagship location. Spanning a massive 100,000 square meters, the store is the largest in Japan by floor space.
Abeno Harukas Kintetsu is home to a range of luxury and designer marques, with a large area dedicated to men’s fashion. Stores include Ralph Lauren, Paul Smith and Calvin Klein.
A wide selection of Japanese and international brand watches can also be found, as well as a branch of Mikomoto, Japan's best-known jewellery brand .
The lower floors are home to a multi-level artisan food market, which is a great place to sample and buy kento no mukashi – chocolate truffles coated with Japanese matcha (green tea) powder.
Once you’ve finished shopping, an observation deck, complete with outdoor courtyard, spans from the 58th to 60th floor and offers an unrivalled panorama of Osaka.
There’s also a free-of-charge roof garden on the 16th floor, with great views of the north encompassing over the city's Minami and Kita districts. This is also where you can find the Abeno Harukas Art Museum.
