One of Osaka's most recognisable districts, Dotonbori Canal is a one-stop-shop for some of the best shopping and dining the city has to offer.
The area is home to countless eateries and is synonymous with Osaka’s kuidaore culture, which can be translated to mean ‘ bankrupting oneself through extravagance in food’, and the same could be said for shopping in Dotonbouri.
The streets running along both sides of the canal are home to hundreds of retail options, from boutique souvenir shops to major branches of Forever 21, H&M and Bershka.
Tsutaya Ebisubashi (above Starbucks) features 5 floors of electronics, music and DVDs, and nearby Tsuruha Drug has a vast selection of daily necessities.
Dotonbori Canal is particularly impressive after dark when streets are illuminated by neon signs and huge LED screens illuminating the streets, with a particularly famous example of the former being the Gilco Man.
