Kawabata Dori Street

Experience a more traditional shopping experience on Kawabata Dori Street

Kawabata Dori Street is a traditional-style covered shopping arcade home to a mix of stores selling everything from clothing to souvenirs. The 400-meter street is a stark contrast to the modern Canal City shopping mall nearby and is a great way to enjoy a more authentic Japanese shopping experience. The street’s 125 stores stock items including kimonos, Japanese tea, handicrafts, and locally produced food products. You can also find a branch of the 100yen store Daiso here. Among the shops is plenty of small restaurants, which mainly specialise in Japanese dishes such as ramen and sushi but also include some Western eateries including a burger takeout, a bagel shop, and pizzeria. Kawabata Dori Street is just a few minutes’ walk away from peaceful Kushida Shrine, which is one of the best Shinto temples to visit in Fukuoka.
