Arguably Osaka’s most famous shopping area, Shinsaibashi Suji is a 600-meter covered arcade with something to suit all budgets.
Home to more than 180 stores, the street stretches from the famous Dotonbori Canal in the south to Shinsaibashi Station in the north.
Shopping options range from discount 100yen shops to upscale designer brands, but the majority of stores are priced somewhere in between.
Because of the high number of tourists, many of the stores in Shinsbaaishi Suji offer duty-free shopping on purchases over 10,000yen. Look for the ‘duty-free shopping' logo outside.
Simply take your receipt and passport to the duty-free counter at participating stores to claim back the 8% sales tax.
If you’re in the mood for more shopping after exploring Shinsaibashi Suji, the covered arcade extends to the north on Ebisubashi Suji and south on Senba Shinsaibashi on the far side of the Dotonbori Canal.
Because of their popularity, all 3 streets are frequently crowded during weekends and on national holidays.
