When you’ve been in business serving the same dish for more than 140 years, you know you are doing something right. Yoshizuka Unagi has been serving its signature grilled eel dish for generations, and its food is now a staple for both locals and tourists alike when they exhaust themselves with Fukuoka’s sights.
Everything on the menu is centred around eel, be it a simple eel on rice (1,598 yen / 16 USD) or the eel ochazuke (1,447yen / 14.50 USD), which is eel meat, rice, and toppings such as dried seaweed, egg, and pickles. The finished product is doused with hot green tea to make a warm and gentle soup-like dish.
For variety’s sake, they also have grilled eel wrapped in rolled egg (421yen) as well as grilled eel liver (518yen).
